News Alert!
Greyhound Connection President, Telma Shaw and Secretary, Wally Lacey, are going to Spain on September 23rd on rescue mission!
It is not surprising that passion for rescuing beloved Greyhounds here in San Diego and their cousins, the Galgos in Spain, has prompted Telma and Wally to finally travel to Spain to not only visit many shelters and deliver donations, but also to bring back three deserving galgas (pictured above) to a new safe life in the States, free of suffering and uncertainty!
People may ask, Why go to Spain when there are so many here that need our help? Our answer is that rescue has no borders. If we can help give a few a new life and raise awareness of the plight of the Galgo as well as the Greyhound, people will help by donating to their cause and much good will be accomplished.
Such an outpouring has been witnessed in the rescue of Sofie. Her complete rescue story is on the the G.R.I.N. website at www.galgorescue.org. Donations came in from all over the U.S. when Sofie's story broke. She had suffered a terrible trauma to her jaw that left it hanging as she wandered the streets of Badajoz, Spain, scared and alone.
The images were frightful, but those images spurred a outburst of help for Sofie which lead her to safety and the veterinary care she needed. Sofie has been at the Veterinary hospital in Valencia, Spain since April and is improving every day. She will be ready to travel by October. Wally Lacey has adopted Sofie and will bring her home!
Angie’s story is also on the G.R.I.N. website. She also has already been adopted and will go into her loving home in California.
The light brindle girl is 8 month old Miel, which means "honey" in English. She was rescued from a potential life of breeding and will be fostered here in Oceanside. You will be able to see her on the GC website when she is up for adoption... unless her foster home “fails” and becomes her forever home. Updates will come as the trip plans progress. Until then, these three are safe and will have the life all Greyhounds/Galgos deserve.
More details about the trip will be shared at the Greyhound Connection Picnic on September 19th. Information about the picnic is forthcoming, so mark your calendars!
We will be celebrating the Fiesta de los Greyhounds!!
